Founded in 1738, Augusta County is located in the Shenandoah Valley region of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The towns of Grottoes and Craigsville are included in the county as well as several unincorporated communities and although considered independent of Augusta, the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro both fully lie within the county’s boundaries.
